Our Bedding Refresh
We recently decided to get rid of ALL our bedding and completely replace everything. When I say all, I mean the sheets, pillowcases, pillows, decorative pillows, the comforter…IT ALL HAD TO GO.
When we first moved into this house, we agreed that we wanted to upgrade to a king sized bed- I’m not much of a cuddler and between our dog and our cat (who are decidedly much more cuddly), we just needed more room to spread out. We purchased our bed frame and mattress from Amazon and my mom bought us our tufted ivory headboard for Christmas. I love them. But I was not happy with our bedding. Our pillows were a mishmash of random ones we had picked up at Costco and others that seemingly just appeared at some point. None of them were king sized and they fit awkwardly in our king-sized pillow cases. The sheets were fine, but they were definitely ready to a refresh. The comforter was a darker gray than I had anticipated but I had decided to just live with it after I disappointedly stuck it on our bed last winter.
I decided I wanted to focus on a black and white color palette with pops of dusty pink. My goal was to brighten the room up a bit and to make everything feel like it belonged together. I based my ENTIRE design around this comforter set. I hunted for WEEKS for the perfect comforter. I didn’t know what I was looking for, I just knew I’d know it when I saw it and boy, did I. I fell in love with this comforter set from JC Penney at around 10:00 on a Friday night and bought it immediately. I was so excited about it that I immediately sent a text to my mom with a picture. I get my love of bargain hunting from her so she was v. impressed with my purchase ;). This comforter and sham set was originally $400 but it’s currently only $160 with promo code FORYOU24!
We also needed a bed skirt but I kinda cringed at the thought of the frilly pleated bed skirts that were popular in the 90’s. Our bed sits up pretty high and something about being able to see straight under it made it look incomplete. I found this super simple black bed skirt and grabbed it for only $12.99. It also comes in beige, cream, and gray in all bed sizes.
We have been talking about buying all new “fancy” pillows for a hot minute. Sleep is so important and our old pillows had gotten flat and misshapen but good pillows can be so pricey! When I saw these Lauren by Ralph Lauren pillows at Macy’s that were originally $32 each were on sale for $10.99 I decided I had to scoop up 4 of them. They’re big and fluffy and fill out the pillow cases beautifully. Plus… how do you pass up on a savings of $84?! We still needed 2 more pillows for the shams. Since they’re strictly decorative, I figured I would just grab some cheap ones from Amazon. These down-alternative pillows came as a set for $38.99. When they arrived I had to laugh because they were in this teeny tiny box, vaccum-sealed into a teeny tiny bundle and I figured they would be terribly uncomfortable….I. WAS. WRONG. If you buy anything from this post MAKE IT THESE PILLOWS. They are like sleeping on little clouds and we are both obsessed. We quickly decided they had to be “sleep pillows” and sacrificed two of the Ralph Lauren pillows to be used in the shams.
Speaking of pillows, I have a new-found respect for Euro pillows. They really elevate the look of a bed, giving the pillow situation more depth, more contrast, and more snuggly-ness. The term “euro pillow” sounded expensive to me. I figured they’d be a pain to find, a pain to purchase, and a pain to find covers for. Once again…wrong. I snagged these euro pillow inserts at Target for $10 each (such a steal!) and was amazed at how comfy they are. They’re truly just meant to be decorative, but we’ve also been using them when we’e just lounging on the bed working on our laptops to prop ourselves up a bit more. The covers for them were also a super easy find, and the fact that they’re velvet doesn’t hurt either. They came as a set on Amazon (currently $22.69) and they come in 12 colors. This microfiber sheet set is from Target and they’re currently only $23.99 and come in a bunch of colors!
Last but not least, was the decorative pillows. I’ve talked a lot about how much more I prefer to buy “pillow covers” as opposed to buying throw pillows. Covers are easy to remove and wash and also allow you to cover old throw pillows and change the look of a room effortlessly. I ordered these faux fur pillow covers and held my breath until they got here. I really wanted a dusty blush pink but the pink they offered was more of a light baby pink (are we calling that millenial pink now?). But the color they called “orange” looked perfect. I worried for 2 days that they would end up being orange soda orange, but when they arrived I was so relieved. They are perfect. I LOVE the color. These cuties are available in 13 colors and are currently only $7.99 each!
I wanted another pop of black to complete the bed and when I saw this little “Snuggle By The Fire” lumbar pillow, I had to have it…even if it is a little seasonally inappropriate haha. It was originally $80 (!!!) and currently on sale for $14.97 PLUS you can use code JULY for an additional 25% making it just $11.23!
