Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my days, outfits, and all the things I love.

DIY Boxwood Wall

DIY Boxwood Wall

We had our Drive By Baby Shower last weekend and it was incredible. When we made the decision to cancel our more traditional, in-person baby shower, I worried a drive by shower would be a letdown but was so pleasantly surprised that it was so much fun and we felt so loved.

We built everything ourselves from the balloon arch, to the cupcake decor and the boxwood wall. The wall was one of my crazy ideas I had at 2am while up trying to fight off another round of insane pregnancy heartburn. I knew I could make one myself cheaper than buying one or renting one and then I could have it for other events in the future for decor and photo backdrops.

supplies:

`makes one 8 foot long x 6 foot tall boxwood wall (you can adjust for a smaller or larger wall)

Start by zip tying all your shelves together in a row using the 40 lb strength zip ties. (I started with 3 before deciding to add on 3 more). I attached them at the top, bottom, and middle of each shelf and they felt pretty secure. Once your base is completed, start laying your boxwood panels.

The kits I linked above come with small green zip ties that work perfect for attaching the boxwood to the shelves and blending in so you don’t see them. For my 8’ x 6’ wall had 4 panels laying across (horizontally) for the first 3 rows and 6 panels laying vertically for the bottom row which covered the base with very little overhang on the sides. The below photo might illustrate this better if that was confusing.

The trick to zip tying the panels to the base is to apply a zip tie to all 4 corners and the centers on the top, bottom, and sides. This process doesn’t take long at all and we accomplished it over the course of a week- but that was only because I had to wait for a second box of boxwood panels to be delivered as I didn’t order enough originally.

The wall held up beautifully throughout the 3 hour event. We ended up using the 40 lb strength zip ties to attach the wall to the legs of our 10’ x 10’ EZ Up and decorated it using this "baby” foil balloon and these foil balloon letters to spell out our last name.

When each guest pulled up, we served them lemonade in custom cups designed by Jerry that read “Oh Boy! Grayson’s on his way!” that we had printed by Totally Promotional. They came with lids and straws for convenience since obviously people were driving. We didn’t use the clear straws they came with, as I had found these cute paper straws that matched our colors a little better.

For favors, we handed out custom cookies with Grayson’s name piped on them. Our cookies came out even more beautiful than I had anticipated and were designed by Mix Bakeshop. I kept one and stuck it in the freezer to keep it- I don’t know what I’ll do with it. Maybe I’ll let him eat it at his first birthday hahaha.

We attached a card to cookies with instructions on how to get in on our Baby Pool. Since we couldn’t play games with our guests like we would at a traditional shower, we thought this would be fun. Using BabyBety.com, our guests could go online and place their bets on when they believe the baby will grace us with his presence. The winner will get half the pot!

You can shop everything we used in our display below!
