Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my days, outfits, and all the things I love.

We Love You to the Moon + Back Nursery

We Love You to the Moon + Back Nursery

I had approximately 450 ideas for a little girl nursery: bunnies and unicorns and swans oh my! But when it came to a little boy’s room, I was stumped. I briefly considered doing a woodland theme but it seemed overdone. Then I thought about a camping theme, but nothing I found seemed to match the vision in my head. Then it dawned on me, something my mom and I say to each other all the time: “I love you to the moon and back”. I loved the idea of moons and stars in a color palette of gray, white, gold, black, and navy. It came out even better than I could have dreamed and I’m so excited to share it with you!

Once we finally decided on a theme, I set out to pick the main furniture. Once I had, my mom surprised us and ordered all of it and had it sent to our house. We were so excited! The crib came in a set with the dresser and I knew two things when I picked out the dresser: 1) that I’d also want to use it as a changing table and 2) that I wanted to switch out the knobs that it came with. We went with this changing table topper and this changing pad and these knobs. I wanted to make sure I set up the changing station for maximum efficiency for middle-of-the-night changings. It seemed easier to have everything within reach on the wall as opposed to tucking it away in a dresser drawer. I accomplished this by using these shelves installed on the wall to the right of the dresser and adding the wipe warmer, current size diapers in this little wooden crate, lotions and creams and a jar of emergency pacifiers. Tucked between the wall and the dresser, just out of sight is the diaper genie and on the opposite side sits this darling slim laundry basket. The real star of the show is this custom name sign. I’ve had it pinned on a Pinterest board since before I even found out I was pregnant and we were absolutely over the moon when it arrived. It’s completely custom: we picked the colors, fonts, even the wood stain. You can use my code SARAHABASTO for 15% off your own! We framed it with a few of the same stars that we used on the accent wall behind the crib (found here and here)

Shortly after painting the room (Perfect Greige by Sherwin Williams), we got started on creating the accent wall. We wanted it to be a mix of white and gold stars in different sizes. We accomplished this by buying two different sets of stars- one from Etsy, another from Amazon and we just got lucky that the golds matched perfectly. We spent a few hours meticulously putting up each star one by one and stepping back to make sure they were random and sporadic after every star. I’m pretty lucky to be married to an artist who is as particular as I am lol.

The first thing we built in the nursery was the crib (& by we I mean, Jerry haha). I absolutely love this crib for its simplicity. So many cribs I came across were too intricate or seemed heavy, while this one seemed light and airy. We topped it with this hybrid mattress and this crib sheet. The artwork above the crib was made by Grayson’s daddy. I am so in love with it and I think it is so special that he will always have a completely custom original piece that was made for him by someone that loves to the moon and back. We framed the prints with these poster frames. I picked these frames because they are super light and on the off chance they were to fall in an earthquake, they should slide down behind the crib and not fall on top of it. They also don’t have any glass- just a thin piece of plastic covering.

The spot I spend the majority of my time as of late is this cozy rocker (it’s currently sold out but should be back in stock in October- mine is in the color “dove gray”). I love that it can be used elsewhere in the house once it’s no longer needed in his room, but in the mean time, it makes for a perfect spot to rock and read to our little guy. We picked these shelves for his books and I love how they perfectly compliment the shelves adjacent at the changing area.

the closet

We are big fans of closet systems in this house and this system from ClosetMaid worked out perfect for our little guy’s already extensive wardrobe. We loved that we were able to configure it to meet our needs- which wasn’t easy with sliding doors (we briefly considered taking the doors off and having an open concept closet but we weren’t really ready to commit to that). In the tower, we inserted three of these fabric storage cubes to store accessories, burp cloths, and one to eventually hold clothes Gray outgrows so that we can decide whether to donate them or hold on to them for whoever in our life happens to have a little dude next. I wanted to keep all his clothes organized by size, so I picked out these custom closet clothes dividers to assist. As a final touch, I went with navy blue velvet baby hangers to hang everything up. We’re so happy with how it came out!
